Bhandardara Travel Guide: Stays, Camping, Treks & Things to Do
Bhandardara is a high-altitude mountain village in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra (Akole Taluka, Ahilyanagar district). Surrounded by Arthur Lake, the Sahyadri mountains, and Maharashtra’s highest peak (Mount Kalsubai), here is your complete local guide to planning a trip without middleman brokers.
How to Reach Bhandardara
Bhandardara is located off the Mumbai-Nashik National Highway. Here are the most convenient routes by car, bus, and train:
Take the Mumbai–Agra National Highway (NH160) through Thane, Shahapur, and Kasara Ghat. After passing Igatpuri, exit right onto the Ghoti bypass. Follow the Ghoti-Bhandardara Road through scenic rural turns directly into Shendi village.
Take the Pune–Nashik Highway (NH60) through Chakan, Narayangaon, and Alephata. Continue towards Sangamner and turn left towards Akole. From Akole, drive 32 km past Rajur and Arthur Lake shoreline into Shendi.
Board a Mumbai suburban local train to Kasara (last stop on the Central Line). From Kasara station, frequent shared jeeps/taxis run to Ghoti (₹40–₹50). At Ghoti, shared jeeps or Maharashtra State Transport (ST) buses run directly to Shendi village.
The road from Ghoti to Shendi is completely tarred and motorable for hatchbacks and sedans. Always download offline Google Maps for the region before leaving the highway as cell towers weaken between hills.
